A combined effort to reduce both accidents and the loss of life on our roads throughout the country will be launched this afternoon in Lautoka.
?Operation Rainbow? will see the Fiji Police and Land Transport Authority work and share resources together over a three month period commencing from today.
Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the Fiji Police has the necessary manpower while the Land Transport Authority will provide the much needed resources to monitor our roads. The sharing of resources will hopefully see to the further reduction of road accidents and fatalities.
?With the current toll of 6 fatalities already doubling last year?s toll, both organizations believe combining resources will greatly assist in achieving Government?s intent of saving lives as stipulated in the Decade of Action for Road Safety2011-2020,? he said.
As noted during Operation Blitz, the last 3 months of 2012 saw a 65% reduction in road fatalities compared to the same period last year.
Naisoro also said last year?s toll of 41 deaths was also the lowest annual fatality recorded over the last 25 years.
Operation Rainbow will be launched this afternoon at the Lautoka City Council Chamber by the Fiji Police and the Land Transport Authority.
