CAPTION:?Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama is surrounded by his special friends from Vatuwaqa Primary School during his visit there today.
Students at Vatuwaqa Primary School started the first school term today with a surprise visit from the head of government, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.
The Prime Minister visited the students to wish them well at the beginning of the school calendar and urged each of them to work hard.
?It is good to know that you all are enjoying the first day of school. Study hard because we want bright students for Fiji,? Prime Minister Bainimarama said.
The Prime Minister was particularly interested in visiting the class four students at the school and reminded them about a Christmas card that they had sent him in 2010.
?I found a Christmas card that you had given me in 2010 when you had only just begun in class one so I thought I would come and pay you a visit?, the Prime Minister said.
?Though you were in class 1 then and now you are in class four, I still remember the day I opened the card and thought of it to be very special.?
VPS Head teacher, Emoni Narawa said the visit by the PM on the first day of school was a testimony of government?s commitment towards education.
?During the visit we were able to brief the PM also on the assistance that we needed for the school and he has assured us of government?s assistance.?
The school was established in 1932 and has a roll of 380 students that attend classes 1 to 8.
