COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, BRIGADIER GENERAL IOANE NAIVALURUA VISITS COUNTERPART IN JAKARTA, INDONESIA

CAPTION: ?Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua exchanging gift ?with the Chief of Indonesian National Police General Timor Pradapo.

The Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua is on a nine day visit to Indonesia.

He is being accompanied by four senior police officers and officials from the Ministry of Defence and they left Fiji last Friday.

The Commissioner and his team are in Jakarta to engage with their counterparts in a Working Group (WG) session in relation to the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Police Cooperation. The MOU was signed on behalf of the Force in Jakarta by the Minister of Defence, Hon. Joketani Cokanasiga in Nobember 2011.

While in Jakarta, Brig- Gen Naivalurua paid a courtesy visit to his Indonesian counterpart General Timur Pradopo at his Headquarters last Monday.

During their discussion Brig – Gen Naivalurua expressed his gratitude to General Pradopo for agreeing to, and facilitating the WG session scheduled for Tuesday 5 February. The MOU is the first to be signed between Agencies of the Governments of the Republic of Fiji and the Republic of Indonesia after a Development Cooperation Agreement (DCA) was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola and his Indonesian counterpart, Dr Marty Natalegawa in May 2011.

Brig- Gen Naivalurua commended his counterpart for the milestone achievement in the relations between their two countries which would be raised to higher levels following the implementation of the MOU.

He also briefed General Pradopo and sought his assistance and support on the Fiji Police preparation and role in Fiji?s 2014 General Elections; the MSG Regional Police Academy; and a place as an observer to the ASEAN Police Conference.

The team received a very positive response from General Pradopo and the details of which was to be worked out as part of the WG discussion.Brig- Gen Naivalurua also extended an invitation to his counterpart and his senior staff to visit Fiji should their agenda allow in the immediate future.

CommissionerNaivalurua and his delegation afterwards were given a tour and briefing on the Indonesian National Police?s Cyber Crime Unit .

Commissioner Naivalurua and his team return to Fiji on Saturday 9th ?February.
