1. Accident

A 51 year old driver of white 3 tonne truck collided with a Telecom Fiji Limited vehicle along Coastal Road between Losa and Itumuta after it failed to negotiate a sharp bend.

The truck was carrying 12 passengers, one passenger received injuries and is admitted at Rotuma Rural Hospital while others were treated and send home.

Both drivers were interviewed and released.

2. Fire

Tuatua Labasa, a 21ft x 32ft, 3 bedroom house made up of corrugated iron & timber was completely destroyed with all its contents.

Cause of fire not known and cost of damage estimated at $20,000.00. The house was not insured.

Investigations continuing.?

Learn to share your problems and not take drastic measures!

This is the message from the Fiji Police Force in light of the increasing attempted suicide cases.

Yesterday two cases of attempted suicide and one case of suicide were reported to police yesterday, a 27 year old Security Officer of Mead Road, Nabua consumed 2 bottle lids full of Paraquat diluted in 2 glasses of water due to depression. He was conveyed to CWM hospital and admitted at Sukuna Ward.

In another case a 43 year old farmer of Bocalevu, Labasa consumed ? glass of Glysoghide (weed killer). The Victim was suffering from chest pain, breathing difficulties for a long time and was thinking of how he will look after his family he is now admitted at Men?s Medical Ward, Labasa Hospital.

Meanwhile, a 79year old female of Sigatoka was found hanging at her home garage using a rope.

The Body now kept at Sigatoka Mortuary awaiting post mortem.

There has been 43 attempted suicide and 25 suicide cases recorded for this year.

 

5. Drowning?

A 20 year old female of Savusavu is the latest drowning victim she was suffering from epilepsy and drowned while accompanying her mother for fishing out at sea. She was conveyed to Natewa Health Centre but was pronounced death on arrival later the body was transferred to Savusavu Hospital and is kept their awaiting post mortem.

This downing toll stands at 17 compared to 17 for the same period last year.
