Japan hands over an Excavator to boost resilience in Nadi

Damages of the Nadi Town from the floods and cyclones cause environmental damages and result in human suffering were being acknowledged at the official handover of a $180,000 worth of Excavator from the Embassy of Japan to the Nadi Town Council at Koroivolu Park, yesterday.

Speaking and Chief Guest at the function, Ambassador of Japan, Eiichi Oshima he was touched by the sufferings the people of the town went through after the natural disasters.

?In aftermath, as I passed through the Nadi area, I was distraught upon witnessing the pain and sorrow the victims were going through,? he said.

Mr. Oshima also said they recognize the impact people preparing themselves before such disasters take place.

?Therefore, Japan recognizes that investing in disaster preparedness and building communities? resilience to disasters are very important,? he said.

Japan is now undertaking the project for the planning of the Nadi River Flood Control Structures in Cooperation with the Fiji Government.
