MINISTER OPENS THE FIRST FNU COUNCIL MEETING

The Minister for Education, National Heritage Culture and Arts, Ambassador Filipe Bole is proud to be associated with Fiji National University since its inception. In his opening report as the Chairman of the Council he remarked ?we are in the fourth year of existence but I note the speed with which the University is moving ahead and new developments taking place?

The government is happy with the developments and the role of the FNU to provide affordable education and training to our young people. The number of students enrolled at the university is growing and so is the number of graduates.

The University is a dual sector with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The National Training and Productivity Centre (NTPC) has been very vibrant in facilitating the Basic Employment Skills Training (BEST) program for secondary school students in Fiji. As at 31st?March some 1,600 students from twelve schools participated in various projects at the University.

The meeting also looked at a number of University Polices and Finance Report.?Ambassador Bole applauded the University for managing its finances well, in collections and expenditure.

?I am pleased to report that the committee discussed a very impressive FNU Strategic Plan 2020 which will be brought to the council once finalised,? added Ambassador Bole

The University continues to forge ahead with strategic partnerships consolidated through MOUs and MOAs. The second proposed councils meeting is on the 29th?of August.
