Cricketers One Step Away From World Cup

The Fiji National U19 Cricket Squad will begin a three day trial to fight for a place in the national side that will look to book a place in the ICC 2014 U19 World Cup against top nations of international like Australia, India, England and Pakistan.

The side will be coached by Cricket Fiji High Performance Manager, Joe Rika and managed by Board member Seremaia Misiki as they look to create history by reaching Fijis first ever World Cup.

?the side will play Samoa, Vanuatu and power house PNG and whoever finishes top will gain a place in the World Cup, it won?t be easy but this is a great opportunity for our upcoming players to experience international cricket? Cricket Fiji CEO, Ratu Inoke Lesuma.

Lesuma may also be travelling with the side to discuss the possibility of sending 3 players in the U19 side to compete in the Brisbane Grade Competition for the 2013/14 season.

?We?ve discussed with a club in Brisbane and they have agreed to give us 3 positions which is a great opportunity for these youngsters and should be an added incentive for them to do well. I will be speaking with the Clubs Chairman to lock this down so we can get started on the paper work? added Lesuma.

The squad has an average age of 17 and is sure to be around for a long while as Cricket Fiji looks to develop their pool of players for the national side in 2015.

?The goal right now is to develop this crop of players by instilling in them the correct technique, the right mental toughness and ensuring they are capable to compete at international level when the time arrives,? Cricket Fiji HPM, Joe Rika.

The squad will begin trials today before the final 14 players to travel on the 30th?of June to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland is announced?on Friday?afternoon at?5:30pm?at Albert Park.
