Investment Fiji has scheduled to hold a two day Seminar in Suva and Lautoka to create awareness on current export opportunities for Fiji in order to achieve export success in the international trade arena. With the theme ?Better Trade Facilitation and Economic Growth?, the seminar aims to facilitate existing exporters who wish to expand their current export markets overseas.

The Permanent Secretary for Industry and Trade, Mr. Shaheen Ali will officiate the Seminar in Suva on Monday 23rd September followed by one in Lautoka which will be officiated by the Commissioner Western, Mr. Joeli Cawaki scheduled for Thursday 26th September.

The theme for this Seminar ?Better Trade Facilitation & Economic Growth? has the fundamental purpose of improving the knowledge and understanding of the standards set out by our Government Agencies to focus on promoting and expanding your export business. This seminar which brings together officials from both the private and public sector is aimed at providing a platform to exchange ideas and experience as well as discussing issues that presenters from the various government agencies can address and clarify.

The Seminar is organized to advocate Government?s initiative of revitalizing exports and reducing Fiji?s import bills by encouraging more exports; it challenges local exporters to further build up their product line catering for larger export markets and growth.

Through the support from the Agencies, a number of fundamental issues have been identified which will be covered in the Seminar, which includes aspects such as Customs Requirements, Quarantine Requirements & Export Permit, Potential Export Markets, Import Substitution & Export Finance Facility, National Export Strategy & Buy Fijian Made Campaign and Export Promotion. The Seminar will also highlight the upcoming Trade Pasifika 2014 Event scheduled to be held in April next year with the theme: Showcasing the best of the Pacific.

Government Agencies scheduled to present at the two Seminars are representatives from the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority, Biosecurity Authority of Fiji, Fiji Export Council, the Reserve Bank of Fiji, Pacific Islands Private Sector Organisation, Ministry of Industry and Trade and Investment Fiji.

Investment Fiji, Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Uluilakeba says that, ?We are aware that our exporters are faced with challenges and a seminar such as this provides opportunities to interact with each other and to seek services of the various Government Agencies who will be present at the Seminar. Their role is to assist exporters.?
