HEALTH MINISTRY CALLS ON CORPORATE BODIES TO ASSIST IN ADDRESSSINBG DENGUE CONCERNS

The Ministry of Health is calling on the private sector including corporate bodies to assist in destroying areas or materials likely to breed mosquitoes.

In the last few weeks, the Ministry has issued advisories and warnings on the dangers of dengue fever and ways to avoid it ? the most common of which includes maintaining a clean environment.

The Ministry said that it is the responsibility of every Fijian to maintain surroundings and destroy places that are likely to breed mosquitoes. They are also urging schools around the country to maintain clean surroundings and to destroy places that are likely to breed mosquitoes.

?It?s important to remove dengue? mosquito breeding objects such as, unused tyres, unused drums, empty tins, and coconut shells, damaged white goods such as washing machine, TV and refrigerators or any material that is likely to hold water and breed mosquitoes?, the Ministry said.

The Health Ministry?s Public Health Division met with local authorities and the Municipal Councils last month within the central division to form effective strategies to reduce breeding sites of mosquitoes and continue spraying works.

?The only way you can avoid contracting dengue fever is if you take all the precautions necessary and making sure that you follow all the warnings and advisories.?
