Weather Situation

A very broad and complex low pressure convergence zone lies to the west of Fiji this morning with three identifiable low centers embedded along the associated cloud band, none of which are any cause for concern. A humid northerly wind flow prevails over Fiji on the eastern side of this low. The air over Fiji remains unstable and will continue to produce the odd shower or two however the broad band of rain that was experienced across the west and north yesterday has now cleared away to the west of Viti levu as the convergence zone slips southwards.

For the West – Cloudy periods but mostly fine this morning. One or two thunderstorms this afternoon with locally heavy falls for half an hour or so. Humid northerly winds gusty at times.

For the North – Fine this morning with a mix of sun and cloud. Chance of an afternoon thundery shower or two later. Hot and steamy with humid northerly winds fresh on the north coast during the afternoon.

Over the Central and southern division, Lomaiviti and Lau – Hot and humid with a mix of sun and clouds. One or two brief passing showers from time to time but staying fine most of the time. Moderate northerly winds and local afternoon seabreezes

Outlook for the next 72 hours – The cloud band associated with the convergence zone is forecast to break apart over waters to our west in the next 24 hours or so and weaken. As it weakens the northerly winds will ease becoming light and variable. So tomorrow we can expect most of Fiji to return to the familiar hot and humid conditions of recent times with a mix of sun and clouds. Still a good chance of one or two afternoon thundery showers about the main islands however. Thursday and Friday fine apart from a few afternoon thundery showers about the larger islands as winds shift easterly once again.
