The Government has dissolved the current Public Accounts Committee as a prelude to the resumption of Parliament after the General Election.
The Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, says a new Public Accounts Committee chaired by the Opposition will be formed once Parliament resumes.
When it does, all of the reports compiled by the Auditor General will be considered by the Committee and be tabled in Parliament.
The Attorney General says the new Committee will also be able to review the work of the old committee set up under the Audit (Public Accounts Committee) Regulations 2007.
In the meantime, the office of the Auditor General is currently preparing and compiling all of the irrelevant reports for presentation to Parliament.
?With the General Election taking place no later than September this year, it is important that we step up preparations for the transition to the new Parliament now. The new Committee, when it?s formed, will have everything it needs to properly examine all aspects of public expenditure?, he said.
In preparation for the new Parliament, various positions in the Parliament Secretariat will be advertised in the coming week.
