Scientific ideas and technical manpower exchanges will be fostered through a partnership between Fiji National University and the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK).
FNU Vice Chancellor Dr Ganesh Chand signed the five-year MOU with IITK Director, Professor Indranil Manna in India last week.
The agreement will open doors for opportunities for exchange and cooperation and joint workshops, seminars, courses and conferences related to academic leadership and management along with other associated topics of mutual interest.
?This is a significant and timely occasion for Fiji National University as IITK is a highly regarded and well established institute in India with a lot of expertise and this MOU will allow FNU to work closely with them to ensure that our students receive the best education,? said Dr Chand.
IITK is one of the premier institutions established by the Government of India, which aims to provide meaningful education, conduct original research of the highest standard and provide leadership in technological innovation for the industrial growth of the country.
The Institute began functioning in the borrowed building of Harcourt Butler Technological Institute in 1959 with 100 students and a small faculty.
IITK?s Department of Chemistry is one of the premier departments in India and the strength of the department has been and continues to be excellence in research and teaching.
The institute was created with the assistance of a consortium of nine leading US research universities as part of the Kanpur Indo-American Programme (KIAP)
The nine US universities helped set up the research laboratories and academic programmes at IITK.
Today it has its own sprawling residential campus, about 2255 undergraduate and 1476 postgraduate students, 309 faculty and more than 900 supporting staff.
Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur carries out original research of significance and technology development at the cutting edge.
It imparts training for students to make them competent, motivated engineers and scientists.
