Tuesday, 25 March 2014, Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), Suva, Fiji ?The ambition to have sustainable, affordable and efficient energy and transport services in the Pacific region requires a multi-disciplinary approach and collaboration of stakeholders at the highest level. Such synergies supplement national efforts through strategic partnerships and pooling of resources.
To this end, the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) will be convening the 2nd joint Pacific Regional Energy and Transport (Aviation and Maritime) Ministers meeting in Nadi, Fiji from 31 March?04 April 2014.
With the theme, ?Sustainable energy and transport services for all in the Pacific Island countries and territories?, the meeting aims to propose interventions and solutions that will support the countries in their quest for achieving sustainable development through accessible, affordable, efficient, safe and secure energy and transport services.
It also aims to bring to the attention of ministers the latest international and regional developments in the energy and transport sector that affect member countries.
A meeting for small island states (SIS) is scheduled in the afternoon of 1 April 2014 to discuss issues specific to these countries, preceded by sectoral officials? meetings on 31 March and the morning of 1 April.
The ministerial meeting follows the inaugural regional meeting of Ministers for Energy, ICT and Transport held in April 2011 in Noumea, New Caledonia, where leaders reaffirmed that energy and transport remain two of the region?s key priorities and are important drivers for economic growth and sustainability of island states.
The week-long meeting will be attended by ministers, senior officials and observers in the energy and transport sector.
