A showcase for science

The College of Engineering, Science and Technology (CEST) will host a four-day grand exhibition from May 14-17, 2014, at its main campus in Samabula, Suva.

The exhibition will showcase, create awareness and promote the programmes and facilities offered by CEST.

The exhibition will also display projects put together by CEST students as part of their practical work.

College Dean, Dr Kandasamy Angamuthu, said the exhibition will be the one day the College will open its doors to the general public.

?The exhibition will give everyone an excellent opportunity to go through the various programmes, laboratories and workshops of various schools and interact directly with the teaching staff and students.

?Students and interested participants should go back knowing more about the various programmes offered by the different schools, the employment opportunities available and how they can achieve it.?

Dr Angamuthu said student? intake is increasing every year, which proves the huge opportunities in the employment market, for CEST graduates.

?Enrolment numbers increase every year to about 15 percent all the time due to the
availability of jobs in the various sectors,? Dean Dr Angamuthu said.

?The aim of the exhibition is to help students see that the College of Engineering, Science & Technology is offering top class engineering programmes and also has facilities for the students,? he said.

?Our goal is to unite students, industry, and the community by inspiring innovation and ingenuity in the minds of future generations. Through the exploration of today?s achievements, we hope to encourage tomorrow?s scientific endeavours,? he said.

The Dean also highlighted this is an ideal time for the public to get to know more about the College and is confident the exhibition will raise interest among the younger people.

?We are trying to get people to know about engineering and the important role it plays in our country.

There is always a shortage of engineers in the country and we hope that this exhibition will create interest among young people to choose engineering.?

CEST also hosted a media conference today for the grand exhibition and anticipates the publicity will encourage students and the general public to be part of this event.

The four-day event will be held on Derrick Campus in Samabula.
