Cricket Fiji?s High Performance Manager, Joe Rika, will depart for Brisbane, Australia?tomorrow, after being invited to complete his Level 3 Coaching Course with Cricket Australia.
After several years playing and captaining Fiji, Rika took to coaching at the helm of the Under-19 side that contested the 2013 International Cricket Council?s (ICC) East-Asia Pacific (EAP) U19 Trophy on Queensland?s Sunshine Coast last year.??He was then invited to be an assistant coach to the EAP Senior Men?s representative side that contested the Australian Country Cricket Championships held in Canberra earlier this year, before being nominated to undertake the course by the ICC EAP office in Melbourne.
The course will be conducted at Cricket Australia?s Centre of Excellence in Brisbane, and will be the first in a series of three residential components to be completed in the course.??Feedback on Joe?s coaching activities in Fiji will need to be supplied to Cricket Australian until March 2015, when the course is due for it?s completion.
Joe will be in elite company while at the Centre of Excellence, with participants in the course including the likes of current Australian first-class and Big Bash League player, Dominic Thornely.
Joe will return to Fiji next week, at the same time that new National Coach, Shane Jurgensen, is due to begin his tenure in Fiji.
