The Pacific Island Development Forum (PIDF) is set to achieve another major milestone in its young life as an international organisation when it signs a number of Partnership Agreements with its development partners at the forthcoming Second Summit of the PIDF to be held at the Sheraton Fiji Resort, Denarau Island, Nadi, Fiji from?18th to 20th June, 2014.

The Inaugural Meeting of the PIDF last year had recognized the critical place of partnership in sustainable development. Partnerships are considered one of the most participatory and effective mechanisms to implement sustainable development and enhance international cooperation.

At the forthcoming Summit the PIDF is set to sign at least four Partnership Agreements with a number of others in their final stages of formalization before signature. One of the major Agreements the PIDF hopes to conclude during the Summit is the Host Country Agreement between Fiji and the PIDF.

Welcoming this major achievement in these early stages of the PIDFs existence as the Pacific?s newest regional organization Interim Secretary General of the PIDF Mr Feleti Teo says, ?As the global community navigates discussions for a Post-2015 Framework, the PIDF has reconfirmed that business as usual is no longer an option, and that we need to move from silos to synergies in addressing the interlinked challenges of environment and development. The PIDF intends to build on its unique advantage as a multi-stakeholder platform that allows Pacific Island Communities to benefit from integrated approaches spanning multiple sectors and combining different interests. No other Pacific organization can currently provide these benefits. We are therefore excited by the various Partnership Agreements that will be signed at the Second Summit and the potential they bring to the Pacific.??

President of the Republic of Indonesia His Excellency Mr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will open the Summit on?Thursday 19th June 2014.
