Cricket Fiji?s General Manager, Inoke Lesuma, has gratefully accepted a cheque from the Chairman of the Fiji National Sports? Commission (FNSC), Peter Mazey, this afternoon, for the amount of $30,000.
The money was used to fund the inaugural Pasifika Under-17 Tri-Series, which was staged in Suva between Fiji, Vanuatu and Tonga this past June.??Mr Mazey said that the FNSC were keen to not only support the country?s senior sporting teams, but also elite development pathways to ensure Fijian sport remains on the top of it?s game for years to come.
?Cricket?s growing here, and that?s a big thing,? Mr Mazey said.???Fiji used to be the strongest cricketing nation in the Pacific, and we are hoping we can get back to that.??Although we didn?t win the Pasifika tournament, we only lost by five runs, so we?re getting back to that point.?
Mr Mazey also said that the FNSC would be supporting the Senior Men?s team in their tours to India and Australia later in the year.
A representative from the International Cricket Council?s (ICC) East-Asia Pacific (EAP) office, Laura Piekarski, was also on hand for the presentation.??Ms Piekarski said it was great to see the FNSC supporting cricket not only in Fiji, but also throughout the Pacific.
