Christmas tree at Damodar City to be major attraction in fundraising drive for Dilkusha and Saint Christopher?s Homes

Friday 28th November, 2014 – Digicel Fiji?s Christmas tree was officially lit at the Damodar City complex in Raiwai this evening. The Suva City Special Administrator, Mr. Chandu Umaria was the chief guest at the lighting ceremony.

For the first time since the tradition began in 2009, the 12-metres high tree will be at the Damodar City complex after being a major attraction at Ratu Sukuna Park during the festive season.

Digicel Fiji?s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Darren McLean says it?s great to continue with tradition and is happy to see the tree at a new venue, which is always a popular stop for people from all walks of life.

?In the holiday season, a lot of Fijians from every corner of this nation visit Suva City and I am sure this Christmas tree will be a hit-attraction, especially for the young children. This is about Corporate Social Responsibility and this year we will be fundraising for two special homes to help them with back to school expenses for the New Year. And even though it?s easy to focus on receiving at this time of year, it’s often in the simple act of giving that we find the greatest happiness.?

Suva?s Special Administrator, Mr. Chandu Umaria said,? This represents a tradition that we celebrate not only as citizens of Suva but as a country. It’s that spirit of unity that we must remember as we light the Digicel Fiji Christmas Tree, a tree that will shine its light far beyond our city.?

Damodar City representative, Ms. Stephanie Smith also wished people of Suva and Fiji a Merry Christmas. ?People can expect some great sale attractions in the coming weeks as tenants prepare for the festive season and to have the Digicel Christmas tree here will be a special occasion for the Centre as it brings together all age groups to celebrate unity and love.?

A donation box will be placed near the tree and all funds raised will be given to the Dilkusha and Saint Christopher?s Homes to help them with their back to school expenses.

The tree will be at the complex for 43 days.

SignzPlus and Star Printery are partner sponsors of the Digicel Christmas tree at Damodar City.
