QUEENSLAND Country leads the field after an outright victory against the East Asia-Pacific (EAP) side in round one of the 2015 Commonwealth Bank Australian Country Cricket Championships in Bendigo, Victoria. The encounter was a two-day game, a challenging format for the EAP side accustomed to playing twenty-twenty and one-day games.
Resuming day two at 4-85, QLD Country passed EAP?s first innings total of 146 without further loss of wickets in the first session at Eaglehawk?s Canterbury Park.
Ben O?Connell, 79 runs off 217 balls, and Sean Fitzsimmons, 75 not out off 143, were the main strengths of the QLD Country innings realing in the EAP totals.
In reply to EAP?s 146, QLD Country declared their first innings at 7-240, before dismissing EAP for just 107 inside 37 overs in their second innings.
EAP off-spinner Jelany Chilia was the pick of his side?s bowling attack, claiming 3-31 off 23.2 overs. All-rounder Nalin Nipiko was the only EAP batsman to pass 20 in the second innings, scoring 25 before holing out to mid off.
EAP captain Jason Kila said it had been a tricky encounter for his side first up.
?It was tough – we didn?t bat well, today especially,? he said.
?I?m sure that the boys will bounce back tomorrow against South Australia, we are confident in our one-day side so it?s going to be good for us.?
