In his speech, the Minister informed Parliament that Government would provide the opportunity for teachers to pursue their career and at the same time, address the disparity in the ?student ? teacher? ratio.

?This is one of the many reforms we are undertaking in the ministry to improve our service delivery to the people of this nation. We want to create opportunities for all aspiring teachers to venture into this career pathway?, the Minister said.

Of the 653 new teachers, 317 will be posted to secondary schools 336 other teachers will be posted to primary schools.

The Ministry wishes to announce that all those qualified teachers who graduated from higher education institutions before the 31st December, 2014 and were unemployed will be absorbed into the Ministry.

The recruitment will include new establishment plus vacant positions.

All teachers recruited will start as an Assistant Teacher 9A with a salary of $12,360 and after 1 year of teaching will be promoted on a higher scale following necessary performance assessment process.
