The Attorney-General Hon. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum held discussions this week with the resident Ambassador of the French Republic to Fiji, His Excellency Michel Djokovic.
During the talks, the French envoy said France was pleased with the way in which the 2013 September elections was carried out. He commended the Fijian Elections Office for facilitating the first genuine democratic and transparent elections to be held in Fiji.
Ambassador Djokovic said France was supportive of the FijiFirst Government’s vision of giving every Fijian common and equal citizenry adding that these were the founding principles of the French Revolution. He also congratulated the Government for the successful removal of the death penalty from Fiji’s laws.
The Attorney-General and the Ambassador also discussed ways to advance relations between Fiji and France through trade and commerce and also discussed building strong institutions.?Ambassador Djokovic said France is also willing to offer training to Fijian journalists at a renown French media institution.
