The Minister for Youth and Sports Hon. Laisenia Tuitubou has commended the community and empowerment activities conducted in Tailevu by an overseas-based organisation based at Silana village in Dawasamu.

The Minister met members of the Global Vision International (GVI) a non-profitable, non-political, non-religious and non-governmental organisation that has been in Dawasamu for the past two years in Silana last Thursday.

While speaking to members of the community in Dawasamu, the Minister said; ?It was a pleasure to witness the progress of the youth groups in the area especially in Silana as a direct result of working in partnership with GVI.?

?The relationship between GVI and Silana youth is a unique one and it is good to see the hard work paying off for all stakeholders in the community,? said Hon. Tuitubou.

He added that the youth ministry is ?indebted to such organisations as GVI that are dedicated to improving the Fijian way of life at the community level.?

?The ministry will see ways and means to support your work to fully benefit the community especially the youths,? added Hon. Tuitubou.

The youth minister was able to mingle with members of Global Vision International (GVI) whom most come from Eastern European countries on Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Wales, Canada and England.

The base manager for GVI in Dawasamu Mr Owen Doel who is from Wales said, ?We signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Youth and Sports in 2013.?

?Today was a great opportunity to show the senior officials from the ministry our projects in Dawasamu and also for some of our volunteers to share their experiences with the Minister,? said Doel.

?We are looking forward to partnering with ministry in the future and in form of training and empowerment they want us to carry out for the youths in the area or anywhere in Fiji,? added Doel.
