FIJI POLICE NEWS UPDATE

Two more Police Officers from the People’s Republic of China were welcomed by Commissioner of Police Major General Ben Groenewald and senior officers at the Fiji Police Headquarters this morning.

They are Supervisor Class 1 Wang Xiang and Superintendent Class 1 Zhang Zheng from the Hubei Provincial Public Security Department. While the two Chinese police officers will be mainly based with the Forensics Department, they will also be sharing their knowledge and expertise in other fields.

The two arrived in to the country early this week and will spend the next few days visiting all Police Units in a familiarization exercise.

This is the third attachment of officers from the People?s Republic of China. In 2011 the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of Fiji signed the Police Cooperation Agreement which has seen the two Police organisations exchange assistance in many forms.

The officers are in the country on behalf of the Chinese Ministry of Public Security and the latest attachment of the two officers is an outcome of continuing relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Fiji Government.

Fiji and China have enjoyed friendly relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1974 and China has remained a close ally and a true friend of Fiji.

Commissioner Groenewald said the Fiji Police Force welcomes and appreciates the expertise of the two officers who are experts in their respective fields of Forensics and Traffic Operations.

?We look forward to learning as much as we can in the crucial area of forensics and traffic management especially since we have had an increase in the number of road accidents and fatalities?.

Supervisor Class 1 Wang Xiang who has a Biology Doctorate in Genetics said he was eager to share his knowledge with his Fijian counterparts.

?The relationship between the Fiji Police Force and the Chinese Ministry of Public Security continues to grow and we are more than happy to not only share our knowledge but also learn from Police here in Fiji?.
