Fiji?s livestock sector in spotlight next week

A national stakeholder meeting will be held next week (12-15 May) to raise awareness and share information on the changing landscape of livestock development in Fiji.

The national consultation, themed ?Livestock for Livelihoods ? new generation thinking?, is part of the Pacific Agriculture Policy Project, a major initiative funded by the European Union and implemented by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC).

The consultation will be facilitated by SPC?s Land Resources Division in conjunction with partners Fiji Ministry of Agriculture and Fiji Crop and Livestock Council.

The Deputy Director of SPC?s Land Resources Division, Dr Ken Cokanasiga, said an expected output of the national consultation would be a strategy on the way forward for the development of Fiji?s livestock sector.

?The consultation will provide a platform for discussions and collective input into the proposed Fiji Livestock Feed Bill. There will also be discussions to raise understanding of the Fiji National Agriculture Policy 2020,? Dr Cokanasiga said.

The national consultation will take place at Tanoa International Hotel, Nadi, Fiji.
