NAURU DELEGATION VISITS FIJI POLICE FORCE

A?high?level?delegation?comprising?of?His?Excellency?the?High?Commissioner?of?the?Republic?of?Nauru?Mr.?Jarden?Kephas?and?the?Commissioner?of?Police?Mr?Corery?Caleb?paid?a?courtesy?call?to?the?Acting?Commissioner?of?Police?Isikeli?Ligairi?this?afternoon.

 

Fiji?s?Roving?Ambassador?and?High?Commissioner?Her?Excellency?Mrs?Litia?Mawi?and?officials?from?both?the?Ministry?of?Foreign?Affairs?and?the?Ministry?of?Defence,?National?Security?and?Immigration?were?also?present?to?welcome?the?delegation?to?the?Fiji?Police?Headquarters.

 

The?High?Commissioner?was?accorded?a?quarter?guard?parade?before?a?brief?overview?of?the?Fiji?Police?Force?was?presented?to?his?delegation?by?the?Fiji?Police?s?Director?Planning?Senior?Superintendent?of?Police?Erami?Raibe.

 

In?addressing?members?of?the?Fiji?Police?Force?H.E?Mr?Kep?acknowledged?the?Fijian?Government?s?initiative?in?strengthening?cooperation?between?the?two?countries?paying?particular?attention?on?small?island?states

 

?At?the?moment?Nauru?is?looking?forward?to?the?signing?and?strengthening?of?a?Memorandum?of?Understanding?with?Fiji?in?the?areas?of?police?management,?training?and?development?.

 

?Police?developments?in?Fiji?are?cost?effective?for?Nauru?and?I?would?presume?for?the?rest?of?the?Pacific?Island?countries?and?would?be?more?oriented?to?the?understanding?and?culture?of?our?Pacific?island?cultures?.

 

Echoing?similar?sentiments?was?Nauru?s?Commissioner?of?Police?Mr?Corery?Caleb?who?said?the?Police?delegation?was?eagerly?looking?forward?to?the?outcomes?of?the?first?meeting?between?the?two?law?enforcement?agencies.

 

?The?Nauru?Police?Force?looks?forward?in?our?bilateral?level?discussions?especially?the?return?of?the?training?cadet?scheme,?capacity?training?in?middle?management?of?the?Fiji?Police?Force?and?other?areas?we?lack?expertise?and?absence?of?proper?training?facilities?.

 

The?first?training?conducted?for?members?of?the?Nauru?Police?Force?in?Fiji?was?conducted?in?1960s?which?continued?till?the?late?1990s.

 

Commissioner?Caleb?who?was?part?of?the?last?recruit?training?in?the?1990s?said?he?knows?his?officers?will?have?a?lot?to?learn?from?their?Fijian?comrades.

 

?I?was?fortunate?to?have?experienced?the?training?Fiji?has?to?offer?and?on?behalf?of?the?Government?of?Nauru?I?would?like?to?thank?to?the?Fiji?Government?and?Fiji?Police?Force?for?making?this?possible?so?it?will?enable?Nauru?Police?Force?to?benefit?from?the?training?and?expertise?that?the?Fiji?Police?has?to?offer?.

 

The?signing?of?the?MOU?is?expected?to?be?held?later?this?year.
