Five new recruits from the Nauru Rescue and Fire Services completed their two weeks basic aviation fire fighting course with a pass out parade before they were given their certification by AFL today.
Nauru has been utilising the services provided by Airports Fiji Limited to upskill their fire fighters and this recent training has further strengthened AFL?s role as a regional mentor in aviation training.
AFL Executive Chairman Faiz Khan said Airports Fiji Limited is reaching out to Pacific island countries to provide them with internationally recognised training so that they are able to improve their services.
Khan said these fire fighters will play an important role in aerodrome safety when they go back to Nauru with the knowledge they have learned from Fiji.
?Air transport today plays a major role in driving sustainable economic and social development. It directly and indirectly supports employment of 56.6 million people around the world. That is why strengthening the skills of rescue fire fighters like the five young men from Nauru will ensure that the safety standards of the aviation industry is maintained.? Khan said.
?At the same time we are attracting more and more interest from other Pacific countries who want to take part in the various trainings provided at AFL?s Fire Training School. We would like to congratulate the Nauru fire fighters who will be returning home on Friday after spending more than two weeks with us.?
The five firemen are Jesse Jeremiah, Tango Hubert, Ezra Mae, Harrison Harris and Julven Ribauw.
They began their course on July 13th and were handed their certificates at the conclusion of their training this morning.
?This is going to make us better fire fighters and for most of us this was a new experience not just the training but coming to Fiji. We have gained a lot of knowledge and will use this to benefit our fire services in Nauru,? said Nauru firemen Jesse Jeremiah.
