FIJIANS ENCOURAGED TO JOIN FIJI DAY CELEBRATIONS

Fijians have been encouraged to commemorate tomorrow?s Fiji Day celebrations in reflecting on the country?s progress in the past four decades.

This was highlighted by the Ministry of Defence, National Security and Immigration permanent secretary Osea Cawaru at a press briefing in Suva today.

?This year?s Fiji Day program marks the 45th year of Fiji?s independence and commemoration and all Fijians are encouraged to fly the Fiji flag with pride at their residence as we approach the national celebrations,? Mr Cawaru said.

?As citizens of Fiji we can reflect on the progress the nation has made in the past four decades. We can reflect on theFIJI DAY challenges that the nation has overcome and this has only been through the sound political leadership of the government and the strong will of all Fijians.?

Mr Cawaru also added that this year?s celebration will be special as we will be witnessing His Excellency the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau?s last official engagement in his capacity as President.

?The military parade will also see His Excellency officiate one last time, therefore it is special occasion for all Fijians to witness.?

With the theme ?Togetherness in Harmony for a Prosperous Fiji? Mr Cawaru is calling on all Fijians to participate in the national celebrations and be patriotic citizens.

There will be celebrations in the divisions but celebrations except for Levuka which will be held on Saturday.

The program in the central division will begin with a march procession from Vatuwaqa Primary School to Bidesi Park where the official program will begin.

Meanwhile, Government agencies and the private sector will display their products and services and members of the public are encouraged to visit the booths.
