ACTING PM MEETS EYE PATIENTS

Acting Prime Minister and Attorney General Hon. Aiyaz Sayed – Khaiyum today met with some patients who underwent eye surgeries by the visiting Hawaiian Eye Foundation team at the Ba Vision eye clinic.

Hon. Sayed – Khaiyum visited the centre yesterday and witnessed cataract surgeries firsthand and returned today to meet with patients that have undergone similar surgeries.

“It has been great and a blessing to be able to see again and I thank Government in creating such an environment where we are able to get such medical services especially when these professionals are interested in coming into the country to help us,” 74-year-old patient Bir Singh said.

“The services provided to us have been more than professional and I hope that Government continues to build such relationship with overseas professionals so that they are able to assist us Fijians.”

Mr Singh who is also a pensioner under Government’s pension scheme told the AG that he was also grateful for the assistance he received.

“I receive $50 a month and that has allowed me to buy some items that I never was able to buy before and relied on family members but now I am able to support myself partially, and for which I am thank to the FijiFirst Government.”

Other patients also thanked Government and added that they hoped the relationships would be strengthened.

Hawaiian Eye Foundation president Dr John Corboy said the re ? visit by the AG was an indication of the support and concern government had of its people.

“The AG (Hon. Sayed ? Khaiyum) asked us some very important questions which show that he understands the situation and is concerned,” Dr Corboy said.
