The Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Veena Bhatnagar visited communities in Lautoka to inform people about the various assistance schemes provided by the ministry.

Accompanied by Welfare Officer Leela Naicker and Women’s Interest Officer Renu Dayal, Assistant Minister Bhatnagar also met with and provided assistance to Mrs Arieta of Viseisei, who is wheelchair bound along with her son.

Assistant Minister Bhatnagar stressed on the Fijian Government’s commitment to providing better services to all communities irrespective of their race, religion, background or geographical location.

“We need to apply a personal touch towards our delivery of service to the communities, to show the continuous commitment that Government has towards them,” Assistant Minister Bhatnagar said.

While speaking to a women’s group in Saweni, she upheld the Welfare to Workfare Initiative and encouraged all present to support women’s empowerment.

Assistant Minister Bhatnagar also said it was important for the men in all families to help women in their homes grow economically.
