Ravoravo Rabbitohs were crowned champions of the Vodafone Cup Nadi Aviators zone after defeating Nadi Eels 18-12 at the AFL grounds, Nadi on June 17.
The Eels started with a blast in the first 40 minutes seeing winger Sakiusa Davetawaqa scoring a double for his side while Etonia Moitoga scored the lone try for the Rabbitohs in the first half and was converted by Timoci Namotukula. Eels led 8-6 at half time.
The Sabeto based side had the advantage of former Fiji Bati rep Tikiko Noke gained momentum in the second half putting the Eels under immense pressure which saw Namotukula sucessful with a penalty.
James Daleliga quickly regrouped with his fellow Eels counterpart and scored their third try beating the opponent’s backline.
How ever this didn’t stop the Rabbitohs side from securing the cup as they continue to fight and scored their third try through Josateki Sovau and Tikiko Noke and Namotukula was successful with a conversion.
In other results in the Reserve grade Ravoravo Rabbitohs defeated Sabeto Roosters 18-6, in the U18 grade West Storm defeated Sabeto Roosters 14-8 and in the U16 grade West Dolphin walloped West Storm 24-4.
Rabbitohs head coach Sitiveni Vuniyaya said he reminded the boys when they were down by two points to have complete trust in themselves which worked out well during the challenge.
“Thank God for the victory, the boys believe in themselves and were confident. They trusted each other,” Vuniyaya said.
Runners up Nadi Eels head coach Jeremaia Dakuliga admits they did not perform to the best of their ability.
“We did not play 80 minutes rugby and there is so much we have to improve moving forward,” Dakuliga said.
