The Ministry of Youth and Sports facilitated the handing over of beekeeping materials to the Vatukalo Youth Club in Levuka recently.
The Ministry also welcomed the assistance from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Fiji for providing $10,000 for this project.
Minister for Youth and Sports, Honourable Laisenia Tuitubou welcomed the assistance and urged the youths to make the most of the equipment.
“The Ministry would like to once again acknowledge the assistance from the Chinese Embassy for providing the grant,” Minister Tuitubou said.
“This will certainly motivate a number of youths to be engaged in beekeeping (apiculture) and become productive and resourceful.”
He said the Ministry would continue to address the needs of young people in the country.
“My Ministry continues to assist young people in income generating projects,” Minister Tuitubou said.
“It is very pleasing to see that young people are taking the effort in creating opportunities for themselves and the Ministry is always ready to further propel such projects.”
While officiating at the handing over, the Assistant Roko Ovalau/ Moturiki Mr. Saimoni Dobui urged the club members to make the most of the assistance and grow in the areas of honey production.
“Youths need to be assertive in attitude, ensuring the project needs to be successful,” he said.“There is shortage of honey supply in Fiji due the demand and I urge you all to be proactive in your approach to ensure that this demand is adequately met by your contribution as well.”
