BAY OF PLENTY THREE ACADEMY SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

Bay of Plenty Rugby are holding an open academy trial with three scholarships available for their Junior High Performance Programme. They will be searching for players with the right attitude and rugby skills. Players will be put through physical testing and skills assessment as well as game scenarios on the day.
The trial is open to males aged 17-20 years for our 2015 intake. Scholarships may include, full participation in the Bay of Plenty Junior High Performance Programme, covered Medical fees (surcharges, appointments), financial contribution (between $500-$2.5k pa), Bay of Plenty Polytechnic scholarship (value of up to $3000 towards tertiary fees), accommodation (reduced weekly rent).

The main aim of the Bay of Plenty Junior High Performance programme is to develop players to meet the demands of both higher level rugby (ITM Cup, Super Rugby, All Blacks) as well as achieving off field success. Players selected for the programme are typically 17-20 years of age which have been identified as having the required skill set and most importantly the personal characteristic to achieve their rugby goals. From 2015 there will be approximately 18-22 players (Men & Women) that are involved in the programme and have training bases in Tauranga and Rotorua by January 2015.

Player Development Manager Chad Tuoro is excited about the opportunity for these young players, “This is an exciting new talent identification initiative and we’re looking forward to the potential talent that will attend. We have done a lot of work around identifying local talent that we would like to be part of the programme for next year and feel the opportunity of this open trial is positive for player recruitment to the region.”
