LABOUR MINISTRY TAKES SERVICES TO KADAVU

The Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment is conducting a road show in Kadavu next week as part of their own reforms to reach out to communities around the country.

This first public consultation for the Eastern Division will take place at Namalata Central School near Vunisea on the 31st of July, 2013 at 2.30pm.

“I am urging people in the greater Kadavu to come and participate in this consultation and use this opportunity to raise any labour related issues they are facing.  Our primary focus is to listen to the grievances of the workers and resolve grievances as swiftly as possible,” said the Labour Minister Mr Jone Usamate.

The Ministry will also use this opportunity to create awareness and educate the members of the public on the various services offered by the Ministry, the employment laws, the rights of employers and workers and the obligations of workers and employers under the labour laws. The Ministry will also be distributing promotional and awareness material on the services it provides.

He added that through these consultations, the Ministry aims to encourage the spirit of the new labour law which is the promotion and enhancement of good faith employment relationships between employers and workers.

Minister Usamate said that these road shows commit Government to make services and facilities more accessible to the public.

The ministry held similar road shows in the Western Division in February, Northern Division in March and in the Central Eastern Division in May this year with significant results. The Minister has made it a point to ensure that issues discussed or brought forward at such road shows are dealt with as quickly as possible.
