Consumer Council to host workshop for Northern Consumers

The Consumer Council of Fiji will be conducting a workshop in Labasa town on Thursday, 20th March 2014, to create awareness and educate the northern consumers on pertinent consumer issues.

Mobile products, electronic goods, debt-management and landlord-tenancy make the top agenda for discussion at the event – as these issues affect the Northern consumers the most in these recent years. The workshop will also focus on this year’s World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) theme “Fix Our Phone Rights”.

The event will be held at Takia Hotel conference room, starting at 9 am.

From the beginning of this year till today, the Council’s northern office recorded a total of 62 complaints. 46 complaints have been successfully closed through mediation. Consumers in the north continue to lodge their complaints with the Council on issues such as, mobile products, electronic goods, hire purchase, spare parts, hardware, mobile services and landlord tenancy.

Hence, empowering vulnerable consumers on their rights and instilling confidence in them to question unfair business practices in the marketplace, is what the Council intends to attain through this workshop.

The Council is calling on the Northern consumers to contact Council’s Labasa Office if they are interested in attending this workshop on Thursday.
