“I have learnt that you are taking part in the games for the first time and I would like to wish you all the best on behalf of Digicel Fiji, go out there and do your best and represent your beautiful island proudly.”

Rotuma Athletics team manager, Viliame Rafaele says they had to fundraise for over six months to be able to make this first-ever trip to Suva for the games.

“We are happy to get the sponsorship from Digicel Fiji and we would like to assure you that we will aim to do our best at the two-day games,” said Rafaele.

Rotuma will be one of eight districts taking part in the games which is expected to see close to 1,200 athletes battle it out in Suva. The team from the islands is made up of the best athletes from four schools.

Rafaele says providing exposure and competition awareness will be the main aim while participating at the games and is hoping for some medals in sprint events.

The Rotuma contingent arrived in Suva last week and will spend another two week in Suva after the games before returning home.

Rotuma is the farthest travelling team to the games, it took them three days to travel by boat to reach Suva.

The FMF Chow Games will be held Friday and Saturday in Suva.
