(NATADOLA, FIJI) Monday 23 September 2013 – InterContinental Fiji will be hosting the USPSchool of Tourism & Hospitality’s Careers Fair this Friday 27 September 2013. The one day event brings together HR representatives from resorts all over Fiji to interview the third and final year students from the Hotel Management programme.

The USP Careers Fair creates a platform for employers to identify young talent, and give graduates the opportunity to kick start their career with reputable organisations. A real life testament to the USP Careers Fair’s success in creating opportunities for students in the tourism industry is Verenaisi Iowane’s story. A third year Hotel Management student, Vereniasi, was recruited on a one year internship by InterContinental Fiji from the 2012 USP Careers Fair. In recognition of her outstanding performance, she was soon awarded employee of the month by the resort in July – the first intern to achieve such an accolade since the programme was launched.

The resort’s Human Resource (HR) team also organised a Careers Week recently for their employees, which comprised of information sessions and skills workshops covering essential careers topics such as writing curriculum vitae and personal development programs, mentoring, and internal cross training.

“Events such as the USP Careers Fair and the IHG Careers Week provide a platform for graduates and employees to access the resources that facilitate their career advancement in the tourism industry,” says Human Resources Manager, Mohammed Feroz.

“As a responsible employer the relationships we have with our employees and the way we manage and take care of them is extremely important to us”, said General Manager, Scott Williams. “We are committed to matching our employees’ career ambitions and supporting them to achieve their goals,” he continued.

InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa is part of the InterContinental Hotel Group. With over 4,500 hotels in over 100 countries and territories there is literally a world of opportunity for IHG employees who aspire to grow and develop their careers.
