POLICE URGE PARENTS TO BE MINDFUL OF THEIR CHILDRENS’ WHEREABOUTS DURING THE HOLIDAYS

“Please ensure you’re aware of your children and loved one’s whereabouts”.

This is the plea from the Fiji Police Force with thousands of youths expected to be converging at the 2014 Coca Cola Games over the next 24 hours.

Chief Operations Officer (COO) Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rusiate Tudravu says past trends have shown an increase in missing person’s reports during such events as children tend to get caught up in the hype of the games and choose to deviate from their initial plans.

“It’s expected that most of our children will want to attend the games with their friends however as parents we must talk to them about the importance of keeping in touch with you if they decide to change their plans”.

Majority of the missing persons’ cases recorded so far are those below the age of 17 with most being found after a period of 24 to 48 hours either at a friends or relatives home and have failed to inform their parents and guardians of their whereabouts.

With Suva city expected to be a hive of activity with major sporting and social events taking place, officers will be keeping tabs on particularly our youth population to ensure they are safe and are kept out of any trouble.

However we need the support and cooperation of members of the public to see this eventuates.

SIGATOKA HIT AND RUN  PROGRESS REPORT

The investigation into the alleged hit and run incident that claimed the life of a 19year old in Sigatoka continues and police are still pleading for information that could help identify the vehicle involved.

Anyone with information is requested to contact 917.

POLICE PROBE PREGNANCY TERMINATION CASE

Investigators are still waiting doctor’s reports following an incident whereby a  35 year old woman was taken to the CWM Hospital on Wednesday night following an alleged procedure for the termination of her pregnancy.

The matter was reported by medical authorities after the victim underwent surgery. She had suffered some complications following the alleged procedure at the doctor’s medical center on Tuesday and was brought to the CWM by the same doctor the next day.

Initial report states the victim was referred to the said doctor following a scan conducted by another doctor which had stated the victim had allegedly lost her baby. Details regarding the outcomes of the scan results are still being looked into at this stage.

The victim and her husband had paid the doctor to conduct the surgery and when she returned the next day she was informed that she had developed some complications and had to be referred to the CWM.

The doctor returned the money to the victim and conveyed her to the hospital. The victim is still admitted in satisfactory condition.

At this stage investigators are trying to piece together the circumstances that led to the alleged procedure taking place in the first place before the case can be classified.

POLICE WARN PUBLIC OF FALSE INFORMATION SUPPLIERS AGAIN

The Fiji Police Force continues to plead with members of the public to cooperate with investigations.

This follows another incident whereby a 49 year old unemployed man of Savusavu has been charged with one count of giving false information.

The accused on two different occasions told police officers that his son who was wanted for arrest wasn’t home at the time of inquiry, and the following day when questioned again stated he hadn’t been home since the previous day.

However information was later received from someone else that the accused’s son had in fact been at their home and had used his phone before leaving.

The accused has been charged with one count of giving false information and bailed to attend the Savusavu Magistrates Court on 26/05/14.

As earlier stated by the Acting Commissioner of Police Ravi Narayan, members of the public must understand that time and resources can be better channeled when the right information is forthcoming.

The Acting Commissioner is therefore once again requesting members of the public to cooperate with officers during the course of an investigation.
