RAKIRAKI TOWN FLOODED AND SUVA- LAUTOKA ROAD CLOSED

5pm, May, 17, 2014. Director National Disaster and Management Office (NDMO)  Manasa Tagicakibau said reports have been received of Rakiraki Town being flooded and road access both from the Suva end and Lautoka end has been closed due to flood waters.

Other areas that are under water include Fiji Sugar Corporation compound in Rakiraki.

Mr Tagicakibau said the National Emergency Operating Centre has received no reports of flooding within the Central Division as yet.

He adds the National Emergency Operating Centre and Divisional Emergency Operating Centre in the Western division have been activated and staff are closely monitoring the situation.

District officials and Police will continue to monitor the situation on the ground.

Members of the public are urged to continue listening to the radio for further information regarding the heavy rain and flood warning and take all appropriate precautionary measures that need to be taken as flooding could be experienced first to low lying areas as we are approachinghigh tide at 8:33pm today with the of height 1.60m.
