RISE IN SUICIDE ATTEMPTS WORRIES POLICE

The Fiji Police Force is concerned with the increase in suicide and attempted suicide cases being reported. Yesterday three cases of attempted suicide were reported.

In first incident a 17 year old form 6 student was found behaving in a disorderly manner and was conveyed to hospital by school teacher on duty and was confirmed by doctor that he consumed paraquat.

The student is admitted under observation.

In second incident a 53 year old farmer of Kavanagasau, Sigatoka consumed ½ glass of Glabosite (weed killer) after having dispute with his wife.

The victim was conveyed to Sigatoka hospital now admitted at Mens Ward under observation.

In third incident a 67 year old female of Walana, Vunivutu, Labasa consumed ½ glass of chemical Amane after suffering from stomach ache for a long time.

The victim is admitted at Labasa hospital.

Police have recorded 35 suicide and 48 attempted suicide cases so far this year.
