SPC appoints new Deputy Director-General, Programmes

The Secretariat of the Pacific Community today has announced that Mr Fabian McKinnon  has been appointed to the position of SPC’s Deputy Director-General, Programmes,  as of Thursday 10 October 2013.

Mr McKinnon is a Canadian national and is fluent in English, French, Spanish and Italian. He has a master’s degree in international law from the University of Glasgow; a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from the University of Southern California; and has studied towards a PhD in political science and international economic development at Duke University.

Mr McKinnon brings to the role extensive experience in executive leadership and management and in key advisory roles in strategy, human resources, training and external relations in large organisations.

The Deputy Director-General, Programmes is based at SPC headquarters in Noumea, New Caledonia. The position is responsible for the leadership, coordination and management of SPC’s Programmes Directorate, which comprises seven technical divisions: Applied Geoscience and Technology; Economic Development; Education, Training and Human Development; Fisheries, Aquaculture and Marine Ecosystems; Land Resources; Public Health; and Statistics for Development.

The directorate has more than 400 staff located in New Caledonia, Fiji, Federated States of Micronesia and Solomon Islands. It has an annual operating budget of approximately USD 85 million.

Meanwhile, the position of Deputy Director-General, Programmes is a three-year appointment renewable for a further three years based on performance.
