NOVEMBER 23 2015. For prison officers and inmates alike the recent upgrade of the main road at the Naboro Prison complex came “as a great relief,” according to Taito Meli, Chief Office for the Pre-Release Centre.

Mr. Meli said that they had endured a badly maintained road for the past twenty-five years despite its importance as the main access to staff quarters, the maximum prison and pre-release centre.

Fulton Hogan Hiways, working under contract to the Fiji Roads Authority, stabilized and sealed the 880 metres road.

The work also included repairing a 10 metre slip, clearing drainage, and widening it from 3 metres to 5 metres.

Mr. Meli said that the road was not passable during wet weather.

“With the repairs we are better equipped to handle emergencies, security, and has made it so much easier for our visitors. We are grateful to Fulton Hogan Hiways for their effort.”
