ACP NARAYAN WARNS ABUSING OFFICERS

“I will not tolerate any of my officers taking the law into their own hands”.

Acting Commissioner of Police Ravi Narayan made the comment following a complaint that some officers at the Lautoka Police Station had allegedly threatened and assaulted a suspect who happens to be a minor in a case of alleged theft.

The head of the Force says the organization has no room for officers who abuse their powers giving his personal assurance that all matters will be investigated thoroughly.

“I take all complaints against my officers seriously and in the event where there is a criminal breach they will face the full brunt of the law”.

“In cases where Police officers breach the procedures and practices they will be dealt with severely internally through our disciplinary process”.

The head of the Force adds, “The uniform a police officer wears does not give them unlimited powers to do as they please and officers must work within the confines of the law”.

The Acting Commissioner says he will ensure all police officers uphold the law and has ordered a full scale investigation in the alleged abuse.

“Incidents such as this are the reason why I had re-established the Internal Affairs Unit to investigate such matters against our own officers”.
