AUSTRALIA ASSISTS FIJI TO ADDRESS DENGUE FEVER

The Australian Government is providing $750,000 to the Fiji Government to help address an outbreak of dengue fever.

The assistance will be used to purchase medical supplies and fund an ongoing public awareness health campaign.

Dengue fever outbreaks in the Pacific typically occur in the wetter months between November and April when the number of mosquitoes transmitting the virus is higher.

Australia’s support will complement the Fiji Ministry of Health’s efforts in health management and prevention, and help maintain patient care and treatment.

This funding is part of a broader package of development assistance to Fiji in health, education and community development.

The Australian Government is committed to normalising relations with Fiji and building stronger ties.
