Fiji’s Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama has announced a competition to design a new national flag.

Speaking at the opening of a legal aid service, he said the Union Jack and cross of St George on the current flag do not represent a democratic and independent Fiji.

The Fiji Broadcasting Corporation’s Akosita Talei was at the announcement and says there’s been a positive reaction to the proposal.
