In its news bulletin this evening, Fiji One News reported that the judgment passed down today against the Fiji Times, its editor, Fred Wesley, and its former publisher Brian O’Flaherty was the first sentence administered under the Media Industry Development Decree (Decree) 2010.
This is totally false. Today’s ruling was the result of a contempt of court case, and is completely unrelated to the Decree. In fact, the Decree was not mentioned a single time in the court’s ruling.
This is a serious and egregious error of reporting.
