Cricket Fiji U19s depart for Australia

By LAURA MACINTOSH

Fiji’s U19 cricket team departed for Brisbane, Australia, today, ahead of next week’s International Cricket Council (ICC) East-Asia Pacific (EAP) U19 Trophy.

After a gruelling final month of training, the team were invited by the Salvation Army Corps in Lautoka to participate in their Sunday church service, which had a timely focus on how Fiji’s youths can contribute to today’s society, as well as a farewell lunch before they boarded their flight from Nadi.

Hosted by Maroochydore Cricket Club on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Fiji along with Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and Samoa will contest the tournament, with the winner gaining a place in next year’s U19 World Cup in Dubai.

Fiji will face Samoa in their first match on Tuesday at Ron McMullin Oval.
