Digicel celebrates with Sportsman of the Year

26th February, 2014 – Digicel Fiji family gathered to honor and celebrate brand ambassador, Ratu Banuve Tabakaucoro’s victory in the recent Fiji Sports awards at their Kadavu House headquarters today.

Tabakaucoro picked up his first-ever Fiji Sportsman of the Year award at last Friday’s ceremony.

Digicel Fiji chief executive officer, Maurice McCarthy  said the company was overwhelmed with the brand ambassador’s award and looked forward to support the Pacific sprint champion for many years to come.

“We are happy to gather here and show our support for you and celebrate this achievement,” said McCarthy.

“We are proud to have supported you since 2010 and we are looking forward to supporting you for many years to come. We, at Digicel would like to wish you in all the championships you run in this year.”

In response, Tabakaucoro acknowledged the support from Digicel and said he was grateful for all the help provided to him for training and competition.

“I want to thank the Digicel family for all their support. I’m working hard to try and qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics and I will be there at the starting line with Digicel printed on my tee-shirt across my chest.”

Tabakaucoro set a new Pacific record in the 100-metres dash, 10.33-seconds, in Wallis and Futuna last year to be tagged the ‘fastest man in the Pacific’.

McCarthy presented a Samsung Tablet as a gift to Tabakaucoro during the tea party ceremony.
