Digicel Fiji Scoops Market of the Year Award

Friday 26 April – Digicel Fiji won the Market of the Year award for the South Pacific at the Digicel Awards Ceremony that was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills California on Monday 22 April. The annual awards ceremony recognises the achievements of Digicel staff from across the globe. Digicel Fiji topped the Pacific Markets Category which also includes Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu, Nauru and Papua New Guinea. Digicel Fiji won the award based on its performance over the last 12 months.

Chief Executive Officer of Digicel Fiji Mr. Maurice McCarthy states, “Winning the Market of the Year award for the South Pacific is an incredible achievement and is the culmination of dedication, commitment and hard-work of our staff in the last four years. Over the past year, we have made significant effort and focus to develop cutting edge solutions for our customers and provide the best customer service at the same time,” said Mr. McCarthy.

“In addition, we have continued to engage with the wider community and our staff have been outstanding in this area,” he said.

“I would like to also thank all our valued customers. They have truly been the lifeline of our company and we attribute our success to their continued commitment and support,” added Mr. McCarthy.

In addition to this award, Digicel Fiji was shortlisted for ‘Best Project of the year’ award with the deployment of its innovative Disaster Recovery and Back up project.  Digicel Fiji was also shortlisted for ‘Employee of the Year’ award where Digicel Fiji’s Head of Retail and Distribution Matthew Nute finished as the runner up.  Fiji featured in four of the five award categories and Mr. McCarthy described this feat as ‘phenomenal’ and added that it was a great win for the team.

Meanwhile, the award for Digicel’s Community Project Competition known as ‘Waves’ was awarded to Digicel Fiji’s Public Relations Manager Zaheer Hassan for submitting the winning proposal out of 182 proposals from 31 Digicel Markets all over the world. The proposal was based on the refurbishment of the Maternity Unit of the CWM Hospital and acquired a funding of $US50,000.
