The Fiji National Council for Disabled Persons yesterday came to the assistance of officers based at the Wainadoi Community Post in Navua with the donation of two new bicycles.

Chief Executive Officer Sitiveni SB Yanuyanutawa said the two bicycles are to be used by the officers during their everyday operations.

Prior to the donation, Mr Yanuyanutawa said he noticed the hard work put in by the Wainadoi Community Police personnel in trying to attend to reports and conducting foot patrol without any vehicle or other forms of transportation.

“I have been a resident of Wainadoi for the past 7 years so the decision to assist our Community Police Post was easy for me to make”.

“Over the years we have been working with Police and we would like to hopefully assist other Community Posts around the country,” said Mr Yanuyanutawa .

He adds the donation will also see that Police Officers create some change in mindset on how to deal with the care and rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities. The FNCDP had signed a MOU with the Fiji Police Force in 2011 and they have been conducting training and awareness with officers on how to care with persons with disabilities during the course of their duties.

The donation was received by Deputy Police Commander Southern Superintendent of Police (SP) Salestino Babakoro who extended the organisations appreciation for the assistance which will enhance police effectiveness and operational capability.

The Wainadoi Community Post has a total manpower of 10 Police Officers.
