DROWNING CLAIMS ANOTHER LIFE

A 64-year-old farmer was pronounced dead on arrival at the Nayavu hospital after drowning in the Wainibuka River.

In a statement released by police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri the incident had taken place at 1pm on Sunday afternoon.

Police believe the victim was attempting to cross the river with his three grandchildren while having a rope tied from his neck to a piece of timber.

Meanwhile a family in Navudi Labasa is homeless after a fire had destroyed their 4 bedroom house damaging contents worth $30,000.00.

The fire had struck at 4pm on Sunday afternoon. No injuries were sustained by members of the family as the house was vacant when the incident occurred. Investigation continues.
